in hindsight my first three were ridiculous:
1. The Monkees with Jimi Hendrix opening - Forest Hills, NY 1967
2. Grateful Dead, Allman Brothers Band, Love - Fillmore East 1970
3. Iron Butterfly, Chicago - NJ Civic 1970

after that it's all a blur. This post was modified by Jeff Kaplan on 2020-03-21 10:29:21

I only learned just yesterday that Hendrix opened for the Monkees! Apparently my cousins caught them in Buffalo at the now gone Aud.

Pretty funny. From one of the Monkees:
"[The parents] were probably not too crazy about having to sit through a Monkees concert," said Dolenz, "much less see this black guy in a psychedelic Day-Glo blouse, playing music from hell, holding his guitar like he was fucking it, then lighting it on fire ..."

It was either Peter Paul and Mary or Ravi Shankar around 64 or 65. The first rockish show was Incredible String band later.
But if this is a Dead attendance contest, I can't remember.
